Suffolk County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Merrick resident Joanne Geraci, 36, at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, after she was stopped for driving 88 mph on the LIE in a posted 55 mph zone.

Deputies said that she was pulled over for speeding, but also failed to make a lane change and nearly struck a Sheriff’s Department cruiser.

According to investigators, Geraci “demonstrated clues while performing standardized field sobriety tests indicating she was impaired and was unsafe to operate a motor vehicle safely.”

She was also in possession of a Ziploc baggie with marijuana at the time of the traffic stop.

Geraci was arrested and transported to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Enforcement Bureau in Yaphank, where she refused to submit to a breathalyzer or blood test to determine whether she was impaired. She was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and unlawful possession of marijuana.
